It should come to no surprise that when things grow more and more popular, the request to hear the style of songs you hear on the radio constantly will occur. This is something that applies to events, a massive, and even clubs.  Recently at the famed Hollywood nightclub, Drais, two DJ’s were sidelined to fit in another DJ to play more commercially accepted tracks.

Both Cassian’s set was reduced and then Anna Lunoe didn’t even perform her set, in order to fit another three DJ’s that were more known to play more poppy tracks. In an interview with InTheMix, officials from Drias stated, “Now, with the addition of 3 other DJ’s on the night, we had to reduce set times so that all artists got 30 minutes on the decks. Cassian played his set and was not “pulled off” by anyone. Although, it’s probably better for his career to say so on Twitter. Anna never played at all (by our request), she hung out with her friends instead…to those fans who were disappointed by Cassian’s reduced set-time and Anna’s rescheduling: We sincerely apologize and hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive us.”

This isn’t the first time that this has occurred. Mark Farina was kicked off the decks at the Marquee in Las Vegas because he wasn’t playing enough top forty tracks. Then, Calvin Harris was kicked off the decks at the Tryst Club in the Wynn Hotel in Vegas for not “playing enough hip-hop tracks.” This is enough to make one start wondering and ask a major question: is this where EDM is headed? If the masses don’t hear ‘pop tracks’, they remove the DJ not playing it and replace it with one that will? It would seem as though they want DJ in mass production that will be prepared to play the same tracks that are on the radio. Tell us what you think about this.
